The Loire Valley is the 3rd wine-producing area of France. It includes several wine-growing regions. These areas produce, dry, semi-sweet, sweet and even syrupy white wines, mostly light red wines and rosé wines. We also find lots of sparkling wines. All these regions are located along of the Loire River and its tributaries.
The Loire vineyard covers a surface of 70 000 hectares. The volumes of production give 4 million of hectoliters 3 million liters of which are VQPRD (Wines of Quality Produced in a Specified Region). It is divided into 4 areas of production that are the Nantes area, the Anjou, the Touraine and the Centre.
The grapes used in the Loire Valley are for the red and rosé wines : the cabernet franc, the cabernet sauvignon, the grolleau, the gamay, the pineau d’Aunis, the pinot noir, the côt…
And for the white wines : the chenin blanc, the sauvignon, the melon, the chardonnay.
